Industrial Wireless Communications Industrial use of radio technology requires particularly reliable connections. A solid basis therefore is provided by the universal standard IEEE 802.11. Interference-tolerant modulation is taken into account. In order to maintain a radio link even over long distances or in the event of reflection against metal objects, the data rate is reduced in defined increments. These are all components of the IEEE 802.11. However, the requirements for data communication in the industrial area is outside the normal scope. The devices in the SCALANCE W family compliment the universal WLAN Standard IEEE 802.11 with additional features, that justify the ‘I’ in IWLAN. For example IWLAN components from Siemens which makes a defined data rate available to selected clients. IWLAN offers deterministic data traffic based on the shared WLAN medium. IWLAN supports the focused monitoring of a client's connection to the access point so that countermeasures can be initiated the moment the connection is broken or the radio cell exited.

Access Points - SCALANCE W-780 The access points serve to establish radio networks in accordance with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/h up to 54 Mbit/s, at both 2.4 GHz as well as at 5 GHz. Ranges of up to 30 m indoors (100 m outdoors). Industrial Wireless LAN functionality can easily be added to existing LAN and WLAN networks be means of SCALANCE W-780 access points.
Client Modules - SCALANCE W-740 The client modules serve as a radio interface between a client with as Industrial Ethernet interface, for example S7-300 with CP343-1 or ET200pro, and the radio network in accordance with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/h up to 54 Mbit/s, both at 2.4 GHz as well as at 5 GHz. Connections can be established with up to 8 IP devices.

| Communications processors - CP 7515 The CP 7515 is a PC card (32 bit CardBus) for operation on an Industrial Wireless LAN (IWLAN) radio network with reliable communication. It is designed to be used used with a SIMATIC Field PG or a Notebook PC. The CP 7515 can be used in a standard WLAN according to IEEE 802.11b/g and IEEE 802.11a at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.

| Mobile Industrial Communicator - MOBIC T8 MOBIC T8 - the Mobile Industrial Communicator is an industrial-strength, only 1,7 kg weighty Internet Pad which enables local or worldwide access to an intranet or the Internet.
