YOU ARE HERE: ISD / Industrial Controls / Overload Relays
SIRIUS Overload RelaysSIRIUS overload relays are available in a thermal version and also in a solid-state version for higher requirements. They have the function of providing current-dependent overload protection for loads (e.g.motors) in the main circuit as well as the other switching and protective devices in the load feeder.
SIRIUS overload relays can be used to configure compact load feeders and that quite simply and in a space-saving fashion. This is because the overload relays are optimally harmonised to the other components (contactors, soft starters etc.) of the modular SIRIUS system - electrically, mechanically and as visually. The modular SIRIUS system also includes standard accessories, which are used independent of the size and which match the 3RU11 thermal overload relay and the 3RB10 solid-state overload relay. This significantly simplifies engineering and minimises stock inventory costs. - 3RU11 Bimetalic (Thermal) Overloads up to 100A, Class 10
- 3RB10 Solid-State Overloads up to 630A, Class 10 and Class 20
| | Higher requirements: Protect with 3RB12 Our 3RB12 solid-state overload relays offer an even higher degree of functionality and protection for full motor protection: These devices additionally protect your loads as a function of the temperature by using a PTC thermistor sensor circuit which is connected to the device. The PTC sensor measures the temperature directly in the motor windings and the signals are evaluated by a relay. As a result of this integrated evaluation unit it is often not necessary to use an additional temperature evaluation device (e.g.thermistor motor protection device or temperature monitoring relay). This also means that no special wiring is required. Beyond this, the 3RB12 relay allows the plant or system to be protected against the consequences of a ground fault using its internal and external ground fault sensing. Furthermore, the 3RB12 has an analog output signal indicating the measured motor current. - 3RB12 up to 820A, Class 5 to Class 30 adjustable.

| SIRIUS SIMOCODE Pro (3UF7)
Just like SIMOCODE-DP, the new SIMOCODE pro is a flexible, modular motor management system for low-voltage, constant-speed motors. It optimizes the connection between the master control system and motor feeder, increases the plant and system availability and at the same time provides significant cost savings when it comes to planning, commissioning, operating and when servicing a plant or system. SIMOCODE pro is installed in the low voltage switchboard and is the intelligent connection between a higher-level automation system and the motor feeder. It is now even more compact and combines the following functions: Multifunctional, electronic motor protection, independent of the automation system Integrated control programs instead of extensive hardware wiring Detailed operating, service and diagnostics data Open communication via PROFIBUS DP – the standard of fieldbus systems Put briefly: Not only are all of the functions provided that are required for a motor feeder, but also a lot more – certainly more than could be implemented conventionally. SIMOCODE pro can now be even more precisely adapted to the specific requirements of each and every motor feeder – thanks to the fact that it has been subdivided into two series of devices with graduated functionality: SIMOCODE pro C – the compact motor management system for direct and reversing starters SIMOCODE pro V – the variable motor management system that, in addition to all of the SIMOCODE pro C functions, also includes many other functions. And not only this, new functions can be added using expansion modules.
The significantly smaller dimensions and the modular design – e.g. the current measurement that is separate from the basic unit – free up even more space and allow a more flexible installation. This is especially advantageous when these devices are used in motor control centers in the process industry. Especially important: The system has been designed for mixed operation. This means that both series of devices can be combined in the same switchboard – depending on the functional requirement and that without any additional costs. In addition to the higher degree of functionality and flexibility, it goes without saying that the certification and approvals, required for use in the process industry, are decisive. The certifications that SIMOCODE-DP has are now also planned for the appropriate form of the new SIMOCODE pro system. |

Thermal Overload RelayThermal overload relays are used in connection with ABB contactors A, AF, AE, TAE, BC and TBC to protect motors with rated operating voltages up to 690V a.c. and 800V d.c. Thermal overload relays have bimetallic releases (1 per phase) through which the motor current flows and are indirectly heated. The bimetallic releases bend subject to the influence of heating and this results in triping of the relay. The auxiliary contacts change their switch position. The overload relays feature a setting scale in amperes. In compliance with international and national standards, the setting current is the rated motor current and not the tripping current (no tripping at 1.05 x I setting current, tripping at 1.2 x I setting current). Features - Trip-free mechanism: Tripping in the event of a fault is not prevented even if the reset button is pressed
- Temperature compensation
- Phase failure protection in accordance with IEC 60947-4-1: This device shortens the tripping times in the event of phase failure and thus improves the motor protection within the limits of the setting range.
- Tripping category: 10A in the case of thermal overload relays TA.. DU and 30A in the case of thermal overload relays TA..SU.
- Reset and test functions
- Auxiliary contacts (1 NO & 1 NC, electrically isolated from each other)

| Electronic Overload Relays (E16DU)The electronic overload relay E16DU is the alernative to the thermal overload relay. The E16DU offers reliable and fast protection in the event of motor overload or phase failure. The relays and the accessories comply with the major international (IEC), European (EN) and national standards (DIN-VDE, NFC-UTE, BS, etc.) and meet the approval and licensing regulations necessary worldwide. Broad Range of Application Being easy to use like a thermal overload relay and compatible with standard motor applications, the E16DU is convincing, above all, due to its broad setting range. Only five types of the new electronic overload relay, covering a range from 0.1A to 18.9A, reliably prevent motor overload. The E16DU units can be used optionally with the ABB contactors A9 to A16 or with the ABB miniature contactors B6 and B7. The overload relays are connected directly to the contactors to form a close coupled motor starter. |
