Fail-Safe Controllers

Fail-safe automation systems from SIMATIC are used to control processes, and change into or remain in a safe state when a fault occurs. They provide an in­te­gra­ted, efficient safety concept in plants with particularly demanding safety re­quire­ments.

Compared with conventional safety technology, a fail-safe SIMATIC also ena­bles intelligent system access up to and including the electrical drives and measuring systems. The improved fault localization thanks to comprehensive diagnostics information enables a fast continuation of production after a safety-related shutdown.

 

  • SIMATIC ET 200S F-CPU: Fail-safe, intelligent interface module for the lower performance range
  • SIMATIC S7-300 F: Fail-safe PLC for the mid to upper performance range.
  • SIMATIC S7-400 F: Fail-safe PLC for the highest performance range

Fail-safe  I/O

The fail-safe modules of ET 200M, ET 200S, ET 200pro (IP67) and/or the digital block peripheral device ET 200eco (IP67) are used for the distributed expansion of fail-safe controllers. In a centralized configuration, the S7-300F CPU can be expanded with fail-safe modules of ET 200M.

All fail-safe modules can diagnose internal and external faults, and are internally redundant. They have their own self-tests and fulfill the obtaining safety requirements. In addition, "fail-safe" and "non fail-safe" I/O modules can be combined in an ET 200M/ET 200S/ ET 200pro station. Both the fail-safe and the standard I/O modules are interfaced via a fieldbus system, i.e. PROFIBUS with PROFIsafe profile.

The fail-safe modules of ET 200S and ET 200pro can also be connected to a PROFINET network via PROFINET interface modules.

 

  • ET200M: Can be used for centralized I/O configurations for the S7-300 and as distributed I/O via PROFIBUS with PROFIsafe profile
  • ET200S: For distributed I/O configurations optional via PROFIBUS or PROFINET with PROFIsafe profile
  • ET200eco: The distributed digital block peripheral device in high degree of protection IP67 with PROFIsafe profile
  • ET200pro: The modular and functional I/O in high degree of protection IP67 for the distributed installation optional via PROFIBUS or PROFINET with PROFIsafe profile
