Baumer Electric is an international leader in the field of precision sensors, it has its origins in the pioneering work that was carried out by Herbert Baumer, a qualified electrical engineer. In 1952 he established a small operation for the production of electro- mechanical appliances on the site of a former shoe factory in Frauenfeld. The first microswitch was developed and produced in Frauenfeld in 1956.

The company went through its fastest period of sustained growth in Frauenfeld during the years 1980 to 1990. During this period it established subsidiaries in Europe and overseas and built up a comprehensive worldwide distribution network. Growing markets require an intuitive understanding of product innovations that will be widely accepted by customers. Baumer Electric continues to set new standards - in accordance with the motto: "We don't want to copy, we want to be copied." The Baumer Group currently employs some 1350 people worldwide.
